In this Find your ZEN Feature (where we feature extraordinary people who have found their ZEN) we shine the spotlight on Racing Driver Todd Hazelwood.
World Time Attack Challenge champion, Bathurst 1000 Winner and The Bend 500 Winner, it’s been a massive year for Todd (driver of the year in our opinion!), and meeting him before, and during WTAC was something truly special.
It was obvious to us that this is a guy who’s found his Zen, so we thought we’d ask him “How did you find your Zen?”.
Finding my Zen, now that’s a great question and don’t think I’ve ever really explained this in detail before which is cool!
For me, there is just something so special about the man and machine challenge when it comes to driving. I’m in two minds, both cruising down the streets or on a nice back-streets hilly road, or out on the race track, all by myself.
When I’m cruising in a car, I generally turn the music off, driver window down and take a moment to reflect on life as I cruise along, shifting through the gears and getting myself in sync with the engine.
It’s a cool feeling for me, might sound weird to others, but that’s my taste of freedom right there. It’s relaxing for me, I honestly feel the tension come out of me via every gear change and enjoy everything in harmony when driving. It’s a feeling I’ve always felt as a kid and still crave it today. It’s a more powerful feeling driving something old for me, you feel more behind the wheel and you’re listening to the noises and imperfections as you cruise along which I love.
Cars has always been my passion since I was a kid and my best memories growing up as a kid was trying to see over the dash and watching my dad fang it through the Hills of Adelaide. That’s a feeling I now get of a different kind by myself driving, it’s cool that it’s lived on for so long!
