Yo! Charlie Roe here from @autoroe_imports – this is my first appearance on the Zen Blog, with my new regular feature “We didn’t get that here!”; where I’ll be sharing interesting and unusual automotive treats that were never available in the ‘AUDM’ – but can be imported today through a variety of pathways, from counties all over the world including Japan.
First up; this is Alex’s JDM 2011 Subaru WRX STi (GRB).
Alex’s mint STi is an original Tokyo car, cherished by it’s last owner, and naturally has the 2L JDM-only EJ20 that redlines at 8,000rpm.
The higher peak torque, forged crank, 1,250rpm of additional headroom and wider powerband from the twinscroll turbo setup, make these a seriously compelling alternative to the locally-delivered 2.5L EJ25.
With an exhaust, intake and a tune they’ll put down 215kw+ at all four wheels, all day – everyday.
This one was imported by us! Since then, Alex has lovingly corrected the WR Blue paint, forged BBS wheels, added the Varis wing and factory STi lip – it cuts a mean shape, right?!
Cars in Japan with over 100,000km become more expensive to register, so owners typically sell them just before (or after) they get there.
These GRB STis are amazing value – if you’re curious to know what the import journey looks like, or if you are keen to find one of your own, get in touch.
