Have you ever heard anything about Colombia? A country located on the north of South America? Surely you’ve heard bad or good things, but I’m pretty sure that you never heard about our car culture, the enthusiasts, builds, stories and competitions.

I’m Alvaro Pinzon, a Designer and Photographer from Colombia and enthusiast of the car culture. I’m very proud to have the opportunity to share this breed of car culture from this side of the world.

What kind of cars do we have? What’s our vision, influences, builds and what about race tracks?  I will start to unveil some of those questions in this selection of photos and future articles. This time I bring to you our most recent car meeting focused on Japanese cars of all kinds and flavours, the JDM weekend!

The event was held in our unique Tocancipa race track, the location is about 20 km outside Bogota DC, at this track people from around the country came here to see the best cars and competitions of all kinds because we only have one official race track.

Honda was the most common and popular maker with the Civic and Integra, followed by Nissan and one of their most popular cars here, the Nissan Sentra B13 a car that was designed in the early 90’s. Due their cheap price and reliability it was still produced without changes until 2012. We also have a passion for old Toyotas; Ke70s the most popular and some Celicas, Supras and other rare cars like the mint Daihatsu Charmant. We also have another favorite car, the Suzuki swift twin cam, a choice very popular for the enthusiast and builders.

Our cars are modified especially to suit our not so good fuel and we have other characteristics. Because we live in a place that is located 2600 meters above the sea level, the turbo setups are more common, but still a lot of people loves and keep modified N/A engines.

Recently the most popular newcomers are the Nissan GT-R a car that has great hype and is becoming pretty common here. It’s impressive that the GT-R’s we have here make 9’s in the quarter mile, and almost half of them have been tuned to over 1000 HP!

We also love Mazda and have some interesting builds like an Asahi (Capella mk6) coupe turbo of 500whp capable of doing 13’s in the quarter mile prepared by Cartuner, one of the most recognizable builders from Bogota.

In the next articles we will see more of our cars, competitions, builds and other aspects of our car culture!

So less talk, enjoy the pictures!
