As the year 2011 is coming to an end; sadly so is the Kuhmo tyres drift car super series. The final round of the series, round 5 was held on Sunday 27th of November at the Archerfield Drift Track Brisbane.

It was a great day for drifting even though temperatures were soaring over 30degrees heat (typical Queensland weather), the event still attracted a good crowd. Something a little different this time organisers incorporated a Show & Shine along the side of the drift track; with a display of some impressive 350z’s, S15 and a WRX. Ben Moore’s 1972 240z was a show stopper. As was Jared Anderson’s 500hp Toyota Supra. But what truly made this event special was the series trophy presentation; the best drivers of the whole 2011 series were announced. This brought out all the big names such as Eugene Anderson, Danny Kenneally, Rob Whyte and Justin Fankhauser to finish the year off with a bang and find out who would be taking home a series trophy.

I don’t know if it was the weather or if these drivers were fighting that little bit harder to win but it seemed like all the cars were breaking! First Daniel Buckna’s BMW broke before the comp even started. Then Eugene Anderson’s Toyota Soarer blew the motor which found him borrowing the Nizzpro R33 Skyline to finish the final drift battle. Then Danny Kenneally blew a gasket from the turbo to the exhaust in his Silute leaving him borrowing L2 division driver Kris Klutke’s Nissan S13 to finish his drift battle. It made the final rounds exciting because the competition really did come down to pure talent with drivers having to prove their drifting skills in a car they were not use too.

Congratulations to Kris Klutke who has shown solid driving through out the series and really deserved winning 1st place in the L2 category, with Ron Lange placing 2nd, Tobias 3rd and Tony Eager 4th. As usual Kris put on an impressive victory lap filling the track with mass amounts of smoke!

In the pro category it was no surprise Rob Whyte took out 1st place finishing the series with his new and improved VQ35 supercharged 350z. In a close 2nd place was QLD Champion Danny Kenneally, Eugene Anderson in 3rd and Nizzpro driver Justin Fankhauser in 4th.

With so much talented driving shown through out the series it could have been anyone’s game so what an end to such an excellent drift series; I can’t wait for next year!

A special thanks to go out to the team at Nizzpro Performance for organising these events; if it was not for your efforts we would not have such an exciting drifting culture in Brisbane.
