What a great day; Classic Japanese Car Club and Q.R Raceways joined forces on Sunday 25th of September for the annual Japanese Nationals (CJSS) event at Lakeside Motor Raceway Kurwongbah, north of Brisbane.

The highly successful event which is now in its seventh year running combined a massive show and shine, track events and trade stalls with big sponsors such as Shannons and Meguiar’s getting involved. A must attend for any car enthusiast.

With 29 trophies up for grabs the Show & Shine brought out some very impressive Japanese cars.

Some extraordinary old school cars were on display like the Daihatsu Compagno-Spider, Honda S800, Isuzu Bellett sedans, Wasps (ute version) with 7 GT’s, along with the only remaining racing 1964 Prince Skyline GTB2000 and even a Datsun 240z to name a few.

Some highly modified modern models like the RX7, Skyline, Supra and S15 were also put on show proving a tough competition for the judges. I was speechless when my 2006 Nissan 350z was called out to take the “2000 – 2011 Best Original” category; what a great accomplishment.

A massive total of 227 show cars were on display at the event with the addition of the sprint car entries.

While there was a lot to see off track the action did not stop on track with regularity, timed laps/sprints, top twenty time attack and 1/4 mile drag racing.

The drag racing final had caught everyone’s attention with every single spectator hanging over the fence to see the impressive R35 GTR Skyline (Will Wallpole) battle it out against a highly modified Datsun 1600 510 (Mick McGregor) which is powered by a Nissan turbo motor to take first place. What a nail biter; the Datsun won by only 300mm over the finish line.

During the lunch break all entrants were allowed on track for a cruise which left me very excited about lining some of the other show cars up on the straight. I had a ball!

I had never ran any of my cars on the Lakeside Motor Raceway track; the way the track turned and twisted up hills along side the lake was very impressive and had my adrenalin pumping.

What a thrilling track to race around!

The Japanese Nationals was an impressive event with all proceeds going to the Angel Flight Charity; raising $2250.00 this year organiser Ray Ferguson said this year’s event had increased in size and was a great success.
