‘That’s Racing’ the two words which make large sums of money, time and effort almost justifiable so you can go home and sleep at night, but after a weekend of waiting (and even more waiting), broken parts, broken dreams and severely sore legs… is it all worth it? YES!
Last weekend found us following two of our young and very talented drivers, Hayley Swanson (in the ARC round) & Trent Grubel (in the Formula Fords).
Hayley’s weekend started off slowly; in practise she lost drive 2 laps in. A bolt had snapped off dropping the tail shaft, this lead to her qualifying 38th. Race 1 found Hayley putting her foot down in the freshly fixed car. She battled up to 27th, where officials made an error calling some cars in before passing the finish line, which resulted in a DNF! This was luckily rectified before Race 2, but the car deciding to lose all drive on the warm up lap. This lead to a new engine needing to be installed and the hope for a better result Day 2.
Day 2 and Race 3, now with a fresh engine and a huge grid in front of her, Hayley managed to work her way up 5 spots! With still some minor issues still occurring, but otherwise running well (enough) the team prepared for Race 4. Race 4 start was good, this found Hayley making a move up over the first few laps, unfortunately a few accidents ahead in the field brought out the safety car which, after a quick restart, had all the remaining drivers battling into turn 1! Half a lap in Hayley’s ARC weekend was over with the misfiring coming back, and robbing her car of all power.
With a weekend of ups and downs, endless amounts of walking and waiting, it’s hard to remember the fun that was had. Even though the end result wasn’t accurate to Hayley’s skills, effort and sheer drive… the laughs, company, relationships and good times were in endless demand. We can’t thank Hayley enough for representing Zen Garage so well, through everything her smile was all that was seen and always made time to talk to her fans.
