The son of Katsuhiro Otomo, Japanese manga artist who created “Akira,” Shohei Otomo’s artwork portrays the darker side of Japanese society, mixing traditional Japanese and pop-culture with twisted elements of violence and vulgarity.

Victoria’s Backwoods Gallery presents a short video that was shot in the lead up to Otomo’s latest exhibition “Flat Blend,” showing insights of the artist’s hometown of Tokyo being the main inspiration to his artwork. Check out this video to find out the motifs behind Otomo’s amazing artwork.
