The last time I went to a Drift Mob drift day I was a week early (read it here), so this time around I double, triple checked that it was on before leaving my house!

DriftMob started way back in mid 2004, back then they were just a handful of mates (usually how these things start) who would either be fixing and building cars on their driveway, or out at Oran Park drifting.

Fast forward to 2012 and they’re an established work shop, a drift club and running drift days for the local Sydney drifters.

Eastern Creek wet skid pan + the peanut shape course kept things interesting. A little more challenging then going round in circles and easier than the real peanut track next to it, which was used as temporarily parking area and where the drifters were lining up waiting for their go.

Too much speed or a heavy jab at the throttle normally result into a spin.

Not enough speed or weight shift and its under, under!

But get it right, keep it in 2nd, balance the throttle so the engine is in its power band and as the tail kicks out, smoothly counter steer the wheel and there lots fun times to be had.

The wet pan also made it fun to take some really cool photos.

It’s always cool seeing girls giving drifting or Motorsports ago. (P.S and it so hot! Especially when they’re wearing hot pink lip stick!).

Owned and driven by a pair of ladies this IS200 was bought as a half-finished project. Its got a full cage, bucket seats, and 1uZ Lexus V8 engine conversion + some loud ass exhaust pipes!!!

By the end of the day they were getting more confident and more sideways after each session.

In a sport that is dominated by males drivers, male photographers and male spectators, it’s refreshing to see a female photographer taking photos.  Now that I think about it I should have gotten her name and asked if she runs a car blog, cause that would be super cool.

Sometimes forgotten and not given enough credit, are the flag marshals who volunteer their time to make these days run smoothly.

Cones properly setup are already hard enough to navigate, but a sea of knocked and thrown cones every where makes it impossible for the drivers to navigate.

Even with the hot sunny weather, these boys were running around on the skid pan picking up and re-arrange cones like mad.

I haven’t properly drifted in long while and what I miss the most is tandem drifting! Allowing multiple cars out on a skid pan is a big plus in my book.  There’s nothing like tandem drifting with your mate and seeing another car side ways next to you.

Favorite car of the day was this super clean and tough AE86.

Having access to a trade plates is super convenient.

Love the look of this S13. I wouldn’t change anything on it.

Green Drift Tek up front and Red Project D in the rear makes for an interesting combo.

Drift Mob nailed it!

A wet pan means no tyre changing, its easy on the car and allows inexperienced drifters to go out and get use to the feeling of the car sideways, all with out the high-speed stuff. There was a DJ pumping out cool tunes all day which kept the spectators happy and DriftMob even had a gazebo going. Oh and did I mention that it was also free, YES FREE for spectators to come and watch.

Making spectators pay is something that I have always been against as I dislike the idea of making spectators pay a fee to watch an event that has no competition involved. Bottom line is it doesn’t help the sport grow.

Anyways..

I’ve already got the next one marked on my calendar, all I’ve got to do is get the LSD installed into the track hack and its happy side way fun time for me!
