I’ve had some seriously big offers for my supercharged R32 Golf over the years. I’ve just had another one and I’m thinking of letting her go this time.

I’ve owned the car for 3 years! The most perfect and longest lasting daily I’ve ever owned! The golf has a solid tie-in with my VWGolf.net.au forums, and it’s also an “R32”, like my “R32” GT-R… but if I sell the Golf I’ll have enough money to do something I’ve been meaning to do for ages, and that’s to restore (as faithfully as I can) one of the cars that Dad used to own.

Now… which car do I choose for the project?! The Datsun is up there (I do remember as a kids that it broke down on us one day though!), so too the 2002. Love the Ghia, it’s all shape, but perhaps a little too feminine.

I posted it up on facebook and a majority of the people suggested the BMW 2002. Lots of logical reasons as you can still buy every single part for that car brand new, that and they’re legendary for being fun cars to drive. Sadly they’ve rocketed in price. Just like when I was searching for a Porsche 911 pre-price-boom, it’s looking like I’ve just missed the boat on 2002’s too, bit prices aren’t scaring me, yet.

I’ve spotted 4 2002’s on carsales, $24-40k (they were $8k when I last looked not too many years ago). One of them is orange, just like Dads above (I’d love to re-create that shot at Bondi Beach, even with the same number plate!). I’d also love to nail 2 birds with one stone and buy a car that was made in the year I was born (1975), that would be amazing, but the 75 BMW 2002 features rectangular taillights which I don’t like.

Whether the Golf sells, or not, this is shaping up to be a project I’m determined to get going at some point in my life. For now, enjoy these top BMW 2002 picks I’ve found surfing around. Enjoy (I sure did!).

Amazing, start to end.
