I’ve been a fan of the Powercruise/Powerplay events at QLD Raceway for a long time and I’ve never missed one for the past 5 years so it was an understatement to say I was excited for the first Queensland Raceway Powerplay event to kick off 2012 on February 11th.

Sadly due to a broken clutch in my 350z this was the first Powerplay I wasn’t a driver entrant in and I definitely had withdrawals, luckily you can sign up to be a passenger and you can just jump out on track with other drivers in the cruise sessions.

What I love about this event is that it incorporates so many different elements for all car enthusiasts to see including track cruising, powerskid comps, drifting comps, off street racing comps, burn out comps, a Dyno shoot out, show & shine, hour of power sessions, sound offs, Miss Powercruise stage shows and even the world record powerskid comp. It really has something for everyone.

And on top of all that, due to the wide choice of competitions you can enter your car in Powerplay attracts so many different types of cars. Everything from your old school muscle cars to your JDM style drift cars and very impressive show cars. What ever your preferred style of car is I can guarantee you it’ll be there.

Some of Queensland’s best drifters were there such as Tony Harrison (50MAN), Danny Kenneally, Rob Whyte and even 18year old Nizzpro driver Dylan Andersen doing drift demos proving to be a crowd favourite.

I personally enjoyed just watching the cruise sessions where they let approximately 60 cars out at a time for a 20 minute cruise session where you basically get to do everything your not allowed to do on the streets, you see some of the best drag racing in the cruise sessions. Seeing how much fun everyone is having out on track is just addictive!

The most impressive comp though is of course the Powerskid competition where some serious contenders rip it up to see if they have the horsepower and driver talent to pull of the longest line of smoke possible.

Powerplay and Powercruise events are held across Australia, the USA and New Zealand and if you have never been a driver entrant in one of them I suggest you start filling out an entry form now because this is one event a car enthusiast just has to experience.

As the website says it really is “just the wildest cruising car show you’ve ever been to”. If you’d like more information about the Powercruise and Powerplay events visit: http://www.powercruise.com
